Dragon Hall, Norwich
Dragon Hall is a magnificent medieval Grade 1 listed trading hall, unique in Western Europe and one of the most important historic buildings in Norfolk.
The Challenge, as part of a 1.8m programme of restoration and development, largely funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, was to facilitate the free flow of visitors and commercial users within the upper storey traders hall and ground floor areas, which had been subdivided in more recent times.
Alan Gentry was engaged to work with the project architect to devise a means of linking the different areas of the building without disturbing the historic fabric.
The solution was an elegant, ground floor gallery consisting of a four-meter propped cantilever structural glass wall, supporting a glass roof.
